Evogen Range Guide: EVP AQ, Carnigen and More

Table of Contents

The Evogen range at Supps247 covers four jobs: a stimulant-free pump and hydration liquid (EVP AQ), carnitine (Carnigen, in liquid and powder form), creatine (Essential Series Creatine Monohydrate) and amino acids (AminoJect BCAA). If you only buy one Evogen product, the creatine is the best-supported and the best value, while EVP AQ suits people who want a caffeine-free pre-workout. EVP AQ has been our best-selling Evogen product in Australia over the last six months.

None of the products below lists caffeine on the label, which makes the range handy for evening training or for stacking with a coffee or a stimulant pre-workout you already use.

EVP AQ: a caffeine-free pump liquid

EVP AQ is a liquid you measure by the tablespoon. A full serve (2 tablespoons) gives 20 g of vegetable glycerol, 2.5 g of betaine, 250 mg of vitamin C and a 50 mg plant extract blend. Each 473 mL bottle holds 16 full serves or 32 half serves, so a half serve costs about $2.19.

Glycerol is a Group A performance supplement in the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) framework. Taken with plenty of fluid, it helps your body hold on to the water you drink. For context, the AIS hyperhydration protocol uses 1.2 to 1.4 g of glycerol per kg of body weight, so a full serve of EVP AQ is a much smaller dose than that. The AIS also notes glycerol came off the WADA prohibited list in 2018. Evogen markets EVP AQ for muscle fullness and pumps, and research on betaine is mixed, with modest results at best. Start with a half serve, as Evogen suggests, and read our EVP AQ guide for the full breakdown. For more caffeine-free options, see our best pump supplement guide.

    Carnigen: liquid vs powder carnitine

Carnitine helps move fatty acids into your cells so they can be used for energy. Your body makes enough for most healthy people, and the AIS lists L-carnitine in Group B, meaning the evidence is emerging or mixed. In plain terms, it is not a fat burner on its own, and your diet and training still decide your results.

    • Carnigen Premium Liquid Carnitine gives 3,000 mg of L-carnitine (as L-carnitine and acetyl L-carnitine HCl) plus 10 mg of vitamin B5 per 15 mL, with about 31 serves per bottle. That is about $2.26 per serve. Our Carnigen liquid guide covers dosing and who it suits.
    • Carnigen Carnitine powder blends four forms of carnitine (L-carnitine L-tartrate, fumarate, acetyl L-carnitine HCl and orotate) with vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium and black pepper extract. It is stimulant-free. Check the label on your tub for the carnitine amount per scoop.

The US National Institutes of Health notes that around 3 g of carnitine a day can cause nausea, stomach cramps, diarrhoea and a fishy body odour. One 15 mL serve of Carnigen liquid already gives 3,000 mg, so stick to one serve a day. If you take medication or have a medical condition, check with your GP before using carnitine. Evogen creatine: the value pick

Evogen Essential Series Creatine Monohydrate is as simple as it gets: 5 g of micronised creatine monohydrate per scoop and nothing else, with about 60 serves per tub. At about $0.58 per serve, it costs less per day than anything else in the Evogen range.

Creatine monohydrate is one of the most researched supplements available. The ISSN position stand found it supports strength, power and lean mass gains when combined with training, at about 3 to 5 g a day after an optional loading phase. Evogen's current 60 serve label carries the NSF Certified for Sport logo, but tested athletes should always check the certification for their batch.

AminoJect BCAA: for flavour and hydration during training

AminoJect BCAA gives 6 g of BCAAs (3 g leucine), 5 g of glutamine, 1 g of citrulline malate, 1 g of betaine and 130 mg of sodium per 17 g scoop, with zero calories. It tastes like a flavoured drink, which helps some people drink more water during long sessions.

Be realistic about what BCAAs do. A 2017 review in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition concluded that BCAAs on their own cannot drive full muscle building, because your body needs all nine essential amino acids. If you already eat enough protein each day, a protein shake or a meal does more for muscle than extra BCAAs.

Which Evogen product should you choose?

    • Best all-rounder: Essential Series Creatine Monohydrate. Strong evidence and low cost per serve.
    • Caffeine-free pre-workout: EVP AQ, starting with a half serve.
    • You want carnitine: Carnigen liquid for a clear dose per serve, or Carnigen powder if you prefer a drink you mix with water.
    • Flavoured drink while you train: AminoJect BCAA, as an extra rather than a must.

    FAQs

    Is Evogen EVP AQ a stimulant-free pre-workout?

Yes. EVP AQ does not list caffeine or other stimulants on the label. Its main ingredients are 20 g of vegetable glycerol and 2.5 g of betaine per full 2 tablespoon serve, plus a small plant extract blend that includes green coffee bean and green tea extracts with no caffeine amount stated. That makes it suitable for evening training or for stacking with a stimulant pre-workout you already use.

Can you take EVP AQ with a pre-workout?

Yes. Evogen says EVP AQ can be taken on its own or alongside a pre-workout, and because it lists no caffeine, it should add little or none to the caffeine in your other product. Start with a half serve (1 tablespoon) to see how your stomach handles the glycerol, and drink plenty of water with it, since glycerol works by helping your body hold on to the fluid you drink.

Does Carnigen help you lose fat?

Not on its own. Carnitine helps move fatty acids into your cells to be used for energy, but your body already makes enough for most healthy people. The AIS lists L-carnitine in Group B, meaning the evidence is emerging or mixed. Fat loss still comes down to eating fewer kilojoules than you use and training consistently. Carnigen can sit alongside that as a caffeine-free option, but it is not a shortcut.

What is the difference between Carnigen liquid and Carnigen powder?

Carnigen Premium Liquid gives 3,000 mg of L-carnitine per 15 mL tablespoon, from L-carnitine and acetyl L-carnitine HCl, plus vitamin B5, with about 31 serves per 473 mL bottle. Carnigen powder blends four forms of carnitine with vitamin B6, calcium, magnesium and black pepper extract, and you mix it with water like a drink. Neither lists caffeine. Choose the liquid for a clear dose per serve, or the powder if you prefer a mixed drink.

    Is Evogen creatine good value?

Yes. Evogen Essential Series Creatine Monohydrate gives 5 g of creatine monohydrate per scoop with about 60 serves per tub, which works out to well under a dollar a day at the time of writing. Creatine monohydrate is the most researched form of creatine, so you are not paying for extras. It is unflavoured and mixes into water, a pre-workout or a protein shake.
