Evogen Carnigen is a caffeine-free liquid carnitine. Each 15 mL tablespoon gives 3,000 mg of L-carnitine, supplied as L-carnitine and acetyl L-carnitine HCl, plus 10 mg of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). The 473 mL bottle holds about 31 serves. It suits adults who want a stimulant-free carnitine before or after training. See Carnigen at Supps247.

What is in Carnigen
Carnigen's Supplement Facts panel has just two actives. The rest of the bottle is purified water, phosphoric acid, DL-malic acid, natural and artificial flavours, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, and the preservatives potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate. Evogen labels it caffeine free.
- L-carnitine, 3,000 mg: the panel lists this total as coming from L-carnitine and acetyl L-carnitine HCl. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) explains that carnitine helps move long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria to be used for energy, and that the body makes enough from the amino acids lysine and methionine to meet the needs of healthy people.
- Acetyl L-carnitine: another form of carnitine. ODS notes that how well it is absorbed has not been well studied.
- Pantothenic acid, 10 mg: this is vitamin B5, added as calcium D-pantothenate.
Evogen says Carnigen supports fat metabolism and promotes recovery. Those are the brand's claims. Independent reviews are more cautious: ODS calls the evidence on carnitine and exercise performance mixed, and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) lists L-carnitine in Group B, meaning emerging support that deserves more research. The AIS also notes there is no evidence that muscle carnitine changes after short periods of use.
On safety, ODS says around 3 g a day can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea and a fishy body odour, and the AIS flags that L-carnitine may raise TMAO, which has been linked with artery plaque and a higher risk of cardiovascular events. A single Carnigen serve is 3 g, which is why Evogen's label says not to exceed the recommended serving.
Who it suits
- Adults who want carnitine with no caffeine, for example before an evening cardio session.
- People who like the option of drinking it straight or adding it to their drink before or after training.
- Anyone already using a stimulant pre-workout or coffee who does not want extra caffeine.
Who should check first
- Under 18: the label says it is not for use by anyone under 18.
- Pregnant, trying to become pregnant or nursing: the label says do not use.
- Medical conditions, seizure disorders or prescription medication: Evogen's warning says not to use it in these cases and to consult a physician first. Stop two weeks before any surgery.
- Heart health: given the AIS note on TMAO, talk to your doctor if you have heart disease or its risk factors.
- Allergies: it is made in a facility that also processes several common allergens, listed in the table above.
- Drug-tested athletes: check Sport Integrity Australia guidance and the HASTA and Informed Sport databases yourself, and read our guide to supplements for drug-tested athletes.
How to use Carnigen
Evogen's directions: take 1 serving (1 tablespoon, about half a cap) 30 minutes before exercise or after your workout. You can take it straight or add it to your favourite drink. Shake well before each use, and you can refrigerate it after opening. Store it somewhere cool and dry, away from sunlight, and do not exceed the recommended serving.
For context, the AIS describes research doses of 1.4 to 3 g of L-carnitine a day, split into two doses taken with carbohydrate-containing meals to help uptake. Follow the label unless a sports dietitian tells you otherwise, and see our L-carnitine guide for more.
How it compares
- Nutrex Liquid Carnitine 3000 has the same 3,000 mg per 15 mL and 31 serves, but lists plain L-carnitine only and is sweetened with sucralose alone. Nutrex directs one serve between meals, or 30 minutes before training, and we list it in 7 flavours.
- EHP Labs OxyShred is a caffeinated drink powder with acetyl L-carnitine HCl in a blend, and 60 serves per tub. Carnigen is the pick if you want to avoid stimulants.

Evogen Carnigen review: our verdict
Carnigen is a straightforward, caffeine-free liquid carnitine with three candy-style flavours and a full 3,000 mg per tablespoon. It suits adults who want carnitine before an evening session or alongside a stim pre-workout without adding more caffeine. The trade-offs are the evidence and the dose. The AIS rates L-carnitine Group B, the fat metabolism message is Evogen's claim, and around 3 g a day is the amount ODS links with stomach upset and a fishy body odour in some people. Stick to one serve, and talk to your doctor first if you have heart risk factors. Nutrex Liquid Carnitine 3000 is the like-for-like alternative with more flavours.
FAQs
How much carnitine is in Carnigen?
Each 15 mL tablespoon gives 3,000 mg of L-carnitine, from L-carnitine and acetyl L-carnitine HCl, plus 10 mg of vitamin B5. A 473 mL bottle holds about 31 serves.
Is Carnigen caffeine free?
Yes. Evogen labels Carnigen caffeine free, and there is no caffeine on the Supplement Facts panel. That makes it an option for training later in the day.
Does Carnigen contain four forms of carnitine?
Not on the current label. Evogen's Supplement Facts panel lists two forms: L-carnitine and acetyl L-carnitine HCl. If the bottle you buy shows a different panel, follow the label on that bottle.
When should I take Carnigen?
Evogen says 30 minutes before exercise or after your workout. Shake the bottle well first.
Carnigen or Nutrex Liquid Carnitine 3000?
Both give 3,000 mg per 15 mL and about a month of daily serves. Carnigen adds acetyl L-carnitine and acesulfame potassium; Nutrex is plain L-carnitine sweetened with sucralose. Pick the flavour you will enjoy.
Does Carnigen need to be refrigerated?
No, but Evogen says you may refrigerate it after opening. Otherwise store it in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat.
