Best Vegan Protein Powder in Australia

Looking for a plant-based protein powder that actually fits your training and your taste? This page lists our top vegan protein picks at Supps247. We started with the plant proteins our customers buy most in our stores and online, then checked each one against its label for protein per serve, scoop size, protein sources and sweeteners. Our plant protein range is smaller than our whey range, so this list is shorter than our other guides. Updated October 2026.

1. Rapid Vegan Plant Protein: best overall

Rapid Vegan is the plant protein our customers buy most, by a wide margin. It blends organic pea and brown rice protein with pumpkin, watermelon seed and sunflower seed protein, so you are not relying on a single plant source. It is sweetened with stevia rather than sucralose, comes in eight flavours, and the 1 kg bag is one of the cheapest ways to get plant protein per serve in our range.

  • Serve: one 30 g scoop
  • Protein: 22.7 g per serve on the Choc Brownie panel (values vary slightly by flavour)
  • About 33 serves per 1 kg bag and 15 serves per 450 g bag
  • Protein blend: organic pea, organic brown rice, pumpkin, watermelon seed and sunflower seed protein
  • Sweetened with stevia

Worth knowing: the label lists no dairy, but it is made on a line that also handles gluten, soy, egg, nuts and seeds, so check the allergen statement if you have a serious allergy. Some people notice a slight aftertaste from stevia.

2. Rule One Plant Protein Vegan: best for tested sport

Rule One Plant Protein is our pick if you compete in a tested sport and want a plant protein with third-party testing. The brand states the product is Informed Choice certified and regularly tested for banned substances by the LGC lab. It uses a four-source blend of pea, sunflower seed, pumpkin seed and watermelon seed protein, is sweetened with stevia leaf extract and contains no artificial food dyes.

  • Protein: 20 g per scoop
  • 20 serves per tub
  • Protein sources: pea, sunflower seed, pumpkin seed and watermelon seed
  • Sweetened with stevia leaf extract, naturally flavoured, dairy free
  • Informed Choice certified, according to Rule One

Worth knowing: at 20 g per scoop it sits at the lower end of this list, and the 20 serve tub makes it the most expensive pick per serve. Check the certification on the tub you buy if testing matters for your sport.

3. Honest to Goodness Organic Sprouted Pea Protein: best unflavoured

If you want plant protein with nothing else in it, this is the simplest option we stock. The ingredient list is one item: organic peas. With no flavour or sweetener, it suits smoothies, oats, baking and savoury recipes where a flavoured powder would clash. It is also one of the best value picks per serve, and the brand lists no declarable allergens.

  • Ingredients: organic peas (100%)
  • Protein: 82 g per 100 g, which works out to about 24.6 g in the suggested 30 g serve
  • Around 25 serves per 750 g pack at 30 g a serve
  • No declarable allergens, according to the brand

Worth knowing: it is unflavoured, so on its own in water it tastes like plain pea protein. It is also higher in sodium than you might expect, at 943 mg per 100 g (roughly 280 mg per 30 g serve). The brand lists China as the country of origin.

4. GHOST Vegan Plant-Based Protein: best for dessert-style flavours

GHOST Vegan is for people who want their plant protein to taste like a treat. Flavours such as Chocolate Cereal Milk, Peanut Butter Cereal Milk and Cinnabon use a sunflower creamer for a richer texture than most plant proteins. Scoop sizes differ by flavour, so protein per scoop ranges from 20 g to 27 g, with zero sugars on every panel we checked.

  • Protein: 20 g (Banana Pancake Batter, 32 g scoop) up to 27 g (Peanut Butter Cereal Milk, 45.5 g scoop)
  • About 28 serves per tub
  • Protein sources: pea protein concentrate and organic pumpkin seed protein (Banana Pancake Batter also lists watermelon seed protein)
  • Total sugars: 0 g per serve on all four panels checked
  • Described by the retailer as soy and gluten free

Worth knowing: it is sweetened with sucralose and uses natural and artificial flavours. Peanut Butter Cereal Milk contains peanuts, and sodium runs from 300 mg to 430 mg per serve depending on flavour.

How we chose

We ranked plant-based protein powders by units sold across Supps247 stores and online in the last six months, then added lower-selling products where they cover a different need, such as unflavoured or tested for sport. We checked protein per serve, serve size and ingredients against brand labels and label panels in October 2026. Value tiers come from the price per serve at the time of writing. Brands do not pay to be on this list. We only included plant protein powders, not other vegan supplements.

How to choose a vegan protein powder

Start with protein per serve. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) notes that a dedicated protein supplement giving 20 to 40 g of protein per serve meets most sports nutrition needs, and that 0.3 to 0.4 g per kg of body weight per meal or snack (typically 15 to 30 g) is a useful target (AIS isolated protein fact sheet). Every pick on this page lands in the 20 to 27 g range per scoop.

Look at the protein sources. The AIS describes plant proteins as lower biological value than dairy proteins, and says this can be improved by mixing sources or fortifying with leucine and other amino acids. That is why most plant powders blend pea with rice or seed proteins. The ISSN position stand on protein and exercise suggests each serve should provide roughly 700 to 3000 mg of leucine (ISSN position stand). Few plant protein labels list leucine, so a multi-source blend and a full 20 g plus serve are sensible checks.

Be realistic about plant vs whey. A 2021 systematic review and meta-analysis found protein source did not affect changes in absolute lean mass or strength overall, although animal protein had an edge for percent lean mass, especially in adults under 50 (Lim and colleagues, Nutrients 2021). Your total daily protein and consistent training matter more than the powder you pick. The ISSN suggests 1.4 to 2.0 g of protein per kg of body weight a day for most people who exercise.

Check sweeteners and flavour. Stevia, sucralose or no sweetener at all is a personal call. If you will mix your powder into food, an unflavoured option is more flexible.

If you are drug tested, look for batch testing. The AIS recommends third-party, batch-tested protein supplements for athletes, and notes that batch testing checks for WADA banned substances, not contaminants such as heavy metals. Athletes who are drug tested should choose batch-tested products, for example HASTA or Informed Sport certified, and check with their sport.

FAQs

Is plant protein as good as whey for building muscle?

For most people it can do the job. A 2021 meta-analysis found no overall difference between animal and plant protein for absolute lean mass or strength, although animal protein had a small edge for percent lean mass, mainly in adults under 50. Hitting your daily protein target and training consistently matters more than the source.

How much protein should a vegan protein powder have per serve?

The AIS says a protein supplement providing 20 to 40 g of protein per serve meets most sports nutrition needs. All four picks on this page sit between 20 and 27 g per scoop. If your powder is lower, you can use a slightly bigger scoop or pair it with other protein foods.

Why do plant proteins blend pea, rice and seed proteins?

Single plant proteins tend to have a less complete amino acid profile than dairy proteins. The AIS notes the quality of plant protein can be improved by mixing sources or fortifying with leucine. Blends such as Rapid Vegan and Rule One Plant Protein combine several sources for this reason.

Are vegan protein powders dairy free?

All four picks are plant-based and none lists dairy ingredients. Some are made in facilities that also handle allergens such as gluten, soy, nuts or seeds, and GHOST Peanut Butter Cereal Milk contains peanuts. If you have a food allergy, read the allergen statement on the tub before you buy.

How many protein shakes can I have a day?

The AIS suggests protein supplements are generally limited to one or two serves a day, with the rest of your protein coming from food. Plant foods such as legumes, tofu, tempeh, nuts and seeds can cover much of a vegan diet, with a shake filling the gaps after training or on busy days.

Can I use unflavoured pea protein in cooking?

Yes. Unflavoured pea protein, such as the Honest to Goodness option, can be stirred into oats, smoothies, pancake batter and some savoury dishes. It has a mild earthy taste, so stronger flavours like cocoa, banana or peanut butter help cover it. Follow the serving directions on the pack.
