What is in Nitro-Tech Ripped
A whey protein blend. The protein comes from whey protein concentrate, whey protein isolate and hydrolysed whey protein, with concentrate listed first. So Nitro-Tech Ripped is a whey blend, not a pure isolate. Our whey isolate vs whey blend guide explains the difference.
The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) position stand on protein and exercise suggests 20 to 40 g of high-quality protein per serve for most exercising people, with 700 to 3,000 mg of leucine per dose. One scoop sits inside that range, and its 4.4 g of naturally occurring leucine more than covers the leucine figure. The ISSN puts daily needs for most exercising people at 1.4 to 2.0 g of protein per kg of body weight. Read more in how much protein you need per day.
L-carnitine (350 mg). The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) explains that carnitine helps transport long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they are used for energy. It also says the liver and kidneys of healthy people make enough carnitine to meet daily needs, that evidence for performance is mixed, and that larger studies are needed to know whether carnitine affects weight loss. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) places L-carnitine in Group B (emerging or mixed support).
Green coffee bean extract (200 mg). The ODS weight loss fact sheet notes that green coffee beans contain caffeine, and that the few human weight loss trials on the extract were all of poor quality. The label does not state how much caffeine a scoop provides.
Rose hip extract (100 mg) and kelp powder (20 mg). The label lists rose hip as Rosa canina and kelp as Laminaria japonica. Kelp is a seaweed, and the ODS lists iodine-containing kelp among supplement ingredients, which matters if you have a thyroid condition.
Who it suits
- Gym-goers and active adults who want 30 g of protein in one shake.
- People tracking energy intake who want a lower-fat, lower-sugar shake: 2.8 g of fat and 3.4 g of sugars per Milk Chocolate scoop.
- Anyone happy with a whey blend rather than a pure isolate.
- People who want added carnitine and green coffee bean extract, knowing the evidence for both is limited.
Who should check first
- Milk, soy or egg allergy: it contains milk and soy, and may contain eggs.
- Thyroid conditions or thyroid medication: kelp contains iodine. The ODS says high iodine intakes can cause thyroid problems, and iodine may interact with antithyroid medicines. Ask your GP first.
- Caffeine sensitivity, pregnancy or breastfeeding: green coffee beans contain caffeine and the amount per scoop is not stated. FSANZ advises pregnant or breastfeeding women to keep caffeine to 200 mg a day from all sources, so check with your doctor.
- Medical conditions or medication: ask your doctor or pharmacist first.
- Drug-tested athletes: Sport Integrity Australia says athletes are responsible for any substance found in their body, and points to products certified by HASTA or Informed Sport. Read our guide for drug-tested athletes.
How to use Nitro-Tech Ripped
The Australian label serve is 1 scoop in 235 mL of water: 43 g for Milk Chocolate and 42 g for French Vanilla Bean. Both flavours list approximately 43 serves per 4 lb tub.
On timing, the ISSN says protein taken before or after training both help, and suggests spreading protein doses evenly across the day, every 3 to 4 hours. At two scoops a day, a tub lasts about three weeks.
How it compares
- MuscleTech Nitro Tech 100% Whey Gold: MuscleTech lists 24 g of protein per serve and no added L-carnitine or green coffee bean extract, so it is the simpler whey option from the same brand.
- R1 Protein by Rule 1: Rule 1 says it is made from whey isolate and partially hydrolysed whey isolate with no whey concentrate, so it suits people who specifically want an isolate.

Nitro-Tech Ripped review: our verdict
Nitro-Tech Ripped earns its place for one reason above all: 30 g of protein in a single scoop with only 2.8 g of fat and 3.4 g of sugars in Milk Chocolate, which makes it an easy fit for people tracking intake on a cut. It is a whey blend rather than a pure isolate, and there are only two flavours. The "ripped" extras are the weak point. The evidence for L-carnitine and green coffee bean extract is limited, the caffeine from green coffee is not stated, and the kelp adds iodine, which matters if you have a thyroid condition. If you only want the protein, MuscleTech's Nitro Tech 100% Whey Gold is the simpler choice.
FAQs
How much protein is in Nitro-Tech Ripped?
Each scoop gives 30 g of protein. The Milk Chocolate scoop is 43 g and French Vanilla Bean is 42 g.
Is Nitro-Tech Ripped a whey protein isolate?
No, it is a whey blend. The ingredient list shows whey protein concentrate first, then whey protein isolate and hydrolysed whey protein. It is still low in fat and sugars per scoop: 2.8 g of fat and 3.4 g of sugars in Milk Chocolate.
Does Nitro-Tech Ripped contain caffeine?
It contains 200 mg of green coffee bean extract per scoop, and the NIH ODS notes that green coffee beans contain caffeine. The label does not state a caffeine amount, so keep that in mind if you are sensitive to caffeine or have your shake late in the day.
Will Nitro-Tech Ripped help me lose weight?
Not on its own. No protein powder causes weight loss by itself, and the ODS rates the weight loss evidence for green coffee bean extract and carnitine as weak or inconclusive. The ISSN notes protein supplements are a practical way to get enough protein while keeping energy intake down: here, 30 g of protein for 689 kJ.
Can women take Nitro-Tech Ripped?
Yes. Protein needs depend on body weight and training, not gender: the ISSN suggests 1.4 to 2.0 g per kg a day for most exercising people. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor first because of the green coffee bean extract and kelp.
How many serves are in a 4 lb tub?
The Australian label lists approximately 43 serves per 4 lb tub, or about six weeks at one scoop a day.
Label details checked against the official MuscleTech Australia product page and nutrition panels on 19 October 2026. Formulas can change, so always read the label on the product you buy and follow the directions.
