The Switch Nutrition range is built mostly around simple, single-ingredient powders, so each product does one clear job. For most people the best place to start is WPI Switch for protein, Switch Creatine Monohydrate for strength and Switch Hydrate for electrolytes, then add pre-workout singles like citrulline or beta-alanine only if your training calls for them. This guide sorts the Switch products we stock in Australia by what each one is for, what the label says and how strong the evidence is.

Protein and creatine: the two basics
WPI Switch
WPI Switch blends microfiltered and hydrolysed whey protein isolate. Each 30 g scoop gives 25.5 g of protein with 1.8 g of carbs and 0.2 g of fat, plus 50 mg of DigeZyme digestive enzymes that include lactase. That makes it a lean shake for cutting or for anyone who finds regular whey heavy. At about $4.33 a serve it is not the budget option, so compare it with other isolates in our best WPI guide if price matters most.
Creatine Monohydrate
Creatine monohydrate is in Group A of the AIS Sports Supplement Framework, the highest evidence level. The ISSN creatine position stand calls it the most effective supplement for high-intensity training capacity and lean mass, with 3 to 5 g a day enough for most people. The Switch scoop is 2.5 g, so two scoops gives 5 g and the 500 g tub lasts about 100 days, roughly $0.70 a day. It is unflavoured and labelled vegan. If you would rather swallow capsules, Switch also makes Creatine HCl Caps, but monohydrate has far more research behind it.
Pre-workout singles: citrulline and beta-alanine
Switch sells the main pre-workout ingredients on their own, which suits people who like to build their own mix or top up a stim-free pre.
- Citrulline Malate 2:1: 3,000 mg per scoop. A 2021 meta-analysis of eight studies found a small increase in reps to failure when people took 6 to 8 g about 40 to 60 minutes before training, with no clear effect on upper-body lifts. So the effect is real but modest, and you need two to three scoops to match the studies.
- Beta Alanine: also AIS Group A. The ISSN beta-alanine position stand says daily intake of 4 to 6 g for at least two to four weeks raises muscle carnosine, with the clearest benefit in hard efforts lasting about 1 to 4 minutes. It can cause a harmless tingling feeling, and splitting the dose through the day helps. Our post on why beta-alanine makes you tingle explains more.
Both are unflavoured, so they mix into water, juice or your usual pre-workout. Compare full formulas in our best pre-workout guide.
Hydration: Switch Hydrate tubs and sachets
Electrolyte supplements are a Group A sports food on the AIS framework, mainly for long or sweaty sessions and hot weather. Each 6 g scoop of Switch Hydrate gives 302 mg sodium, 155 mg potassium, 125 mg magnesium and 55 mg calcium, with 1,000 mg taurine, vitamin C, B vitamins and less than 1 g of sugars. It also contains 100 mg of CoffeeBerry, a coffee fruit extract, so check the label if you avoid coffee-derived ingredients late in the day.
The 50 serve tub works out at about $1.80 a serve. The 20 sachet box ($49.95) costs more per serve but is handy for a gym bag or travel. For a wider look at electrolytes, read electrolytes explained or our best electrolytes guide.
Wellness and optional extras
- Adrenal Switch is a flavoured magnesium formula with ashwagandha, often taken in the evening. Magnesium is an essential mineral, but the AIS places magnesium supplements in Group C for sports performance, so think of this as a wind-down drink rather than a training aid. Check with your GP first if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or take regular medication.
- Switch Carnitine is acetyl L-carnitine (ALCAR), 1,000 mg per scoop. It will not do the work of a calorie deficit, so think of it as an optional extra once your diet and training are sorted.
- Switch Glutamine gives 3,000 mg per serve. Some lifters add it to a post-training shake, but it is a nice-to-have, not a priority.
Women's and men's health formulas
Switch also makes herbal and vitamin formulas such as Estro Switch for women and Alpha Switch for men, plus single ingredients like inositol. These are closer to health products than sports supplements, and they are not the place to start. If you are thinking about one, read the full label and talk to your GP first, especially if you have a hormone-related condition, are pregnant or trying to conceive, or take the pill or other medication.
Which Switch product should you start with?
- New to supplements: WPI Switch plus Creatine Monohydrate covers the two products with the strongest evidence.
- You sweat a lot or train in the heat: add Hydrate.
- You want to build your own pre-workout: citrulline and beta-alanine, dosed to the research.
- You want an evening routine: Adrenal Switch, after checking with your GP if you take medication.
Our pick for most people is Switch Creatine Monohydrate: cheap per day, well researched and easy to take. See the full Switch Nutrition range, compare creatines in our best creatine guide, or plan a full stack with Build Your Stack.

FAQs
How much Switch creatine should I take a day?
The Switch scoop is 2.5 g of creatine monohydrate. The ISSN suggests 3 to 5 g a day for most people, so one to two scoops a day is typical, and two scoops (5 g) makes the 500 g tub last about 100 days. Take it at any time of day with water or your shake. Consistency matters more than timing. Follow the directions on the label.
Is WPI Switch lactose free?
No. WPI Switch uses whey protein isolate, which is filtered to remove most of the lactose, and it adds a DigeZyme enzyme blend that includes lactase. Many people who find regular whey heavy handle it well, but it is still a dairy product and not lactose free. If you have a diagnosed lactose intolerance or a milk allergy, check the label and speak to your GP or dietitian first.
Can I mix Switch citrulline and beta-alanine together?
Yes. Both are unflavoured powders, so you can stir them into water, juice or a stim-free pre-workout. Citrulline is usually taken 40 to 60 minutes before training, while beta-alanine works by building up over weeks, so its timing matters less. Beta-alanine can cause a harmless tingling feeling, and splitting it into smaller doses through the day reduces it.
Which Switch Nutrition products are vegan?
Switch Creatine Monohydrate is labelled vegan on the tub, and our listings show Switch Carnitine, Beta Alanine and Glutamine as vegan friendly. WPI Switch is made from whey, so it is a dairy product and not vegan. Formulas and flavours can change, so always check the current label before you buy if this matters to you.
