The MuscleTech range in Australia covers four jobs: whey protein (the Nitro-Tech family), a mass gainer (Mass Tech Extreme 2000), creatine (Cell Tech and Creactor) and essential amino acids (Platinum EAAs). For most people, a Nitro-Tech protein is the place to start, creatine is a sensible add-on, and the gainer only makes sense if you struggle to eat enough food to put on weight. Mass Tech Extreme 2000 has been our best-selling MuscleTech product over the last six months, with the Nitro-Tech proteins close behind.

MuscleTech protein: which Nitro-Tech suits you?
All four MuscleTech proteins give 24 to 30 g of protein per scoop. The ISSN suggests 1.4 to 2.0 g of protein per kg of body weight a day for most people who train, and that daily total matters more than which tub it comes from. The real differences are the extras, the type of whey and the cost per serve.
NitroTech Whey Protein: protein plus creatine
NitroTech Whey Protein gives 30 g of protein and 3 g of creatine monohydrate per 45 g scoop on the Australian label. The protein is mostly whey concentrate. One scoop a day already gives you 3 g of creatine, the low end of the 3 to 5 g a day used in most creatine research, so it is handy if you want one tub instead of two. It works out at about $3.75 per serve in the 4 lb tub.
Nitro Tech 100% Whey Gold: best value per serve
Nitro Tech 100% Whey Gold is the simple, no-extras option: 24 g of protein, 1.8 g of carbs and 2.2 g of fat per 33 g scoop. The 5 lb tub holds about 69 serves, so it costs about $2.32 per serve, the lowest of the MuscleTech proteins we stock. The 10 lb tub ($259.95, Vanilla) brings that down further, to about $1.90 per serve across its 137 serves.
Nitro-Tech Ripped: a leaner shake with extras
Nitro-Tech Ripped gives 30 g of protein per 43 g scoop with 2.8 g of fat and 3.4 g of sugars. It adds 350 mg of L-carnitine, 200 mg of green coffee bean extract, rose hip and kelp. No protein powder causes fat loss by itself, and the label does not list a caffeine amount for the green coffee extract, so take care if you are sensitive to caffeine. Our Nitro-Tech Ripped guide covers it in more detail.
ISO Whey: pure isolate
MuscleTech ISO Whey uses whey protein isolate only, with 25 g of protein and 0 g of added sugar per scoop. Isolate is lower in lactose than concentrate, so it can sit better with people who get bloated on regular whey, but it is not lactose free. Only Vanilla is in stock at the time of writing.
MuscleTech mass gainer: Mass Tech Extreme 2000
Mass Tech Extreme 2000 is built for people who find it hard to eat enough. A full serve is 6 scoops (564 g) and gives 9010 kJ (2160 kcal), 62 g of protein, 452 g of carbs and 3 g of creatine when mixed with water. The 80 g protein figure on the front of the bag only applies when you mix it with 500 mL of skim milk, which adds the extra protein.
The label also gives a shaker option of half a serve (3 scoops) twice a day, and many people start with one half serve and build up. The 5.44 kg bag holds about 10 full serves, so it works out at about $15.99 per full serve or $8.00 per half serve. If you can simply eat more meals, you may not need a gainer at all. MuscleTech creatine: Cell Tech vs Creactor
Creatine is one of the few supplements the Australian Institute of Sport describes as having good evidence of benefit. Most of that research uses creatine monohydrate at about 3 to 5 g a day, which supports strength and power in repeated high-intensity exercise when combined with training.
- Cell Tech gives 5 g of creatine monohydrate per scoop with 38 g of carbs, including 14 g of added sugars, plus taurine and alpha-lipoic acid. The ISSN notes that taking creatine with carbs or protein may help your muscles store a little more of it, so Cell Tech suits people who want a post-workout carb drink anyway. If you are watching your sugar intake, plain monohydrate does the same core job.
- Creactor uses 750 mg of creatine HCl and 750 mg of free-acid creatine in a tiny 2 g scoop, with about 120 serves per tub. It is easy to mix, but it does not use monohydrate, and there is little evidence that other forms of creatine work better than monohydrate.
If you already drink NitroTech Whey Protein daily, count its 3 g of creatine before adding another product. Browse every option in our creatine range.
Amino acids: Platinum EAAs
Platinum EAAs gives 9.5 g of all nine essential amino acids per serve, with 30 serves per tub. The ISSN protein position stand notes that around 10 g of essential amino acids can stimulate muscle protein building, about what one scoop gives. A protein shake or a protein-rich meal gives you the same amino acids plus more protein, so EAAs are optional. They suit people who like a light drink during long sessions.
Which MuscleTech product should you choose?
- Most people: Nitro Tech 100% Whey Gold 5 lb, the best value per serve in the range.
- Want protein and creatine in one scoop: NitroTech Whey Protein.
- Dieting or sensitive to concentrate: ISO Whey for a pure isolate, or Nitro-Tech Ripped if you like the extras.
- Struggling to gain weight: Mass Tech Extreme 2000, starting with a half serve.
- Creatine: Cell Tech if you want carbs with it. Otherwise a plain creatine monohydrate is the most studied option.

FAQs
Which MuscleTech protein is best for beginners?
Nitro Tech 100% Whey Gold is the easiest starting point. It gives 24 g of protein per 33 g scoop with few extras and is the best value per serve in the MuscleTech range we stock. If you also want creatine without buying a second tub, NitroTech Whey Protein adds 3 g of creatine monohydrate to each 30 g protein scoop.
Does MuscleTech NitroTech contain creatine?
Yes. NitroTech Whey Protein (the standard Nitro-Tech) contains 3 g of creatine monohydrate per 45 g scoop on the Australian label, alongside 30 g of protein. Nitro Tech 100% Whey Gold, Nitro-Tech Ripped and ISO Whey do not list added creatine. If you also use a separate creatine, add the two together, as most research uses about 3 to 5 g a day in total.
Does Mass Tech Extreme 2000 really give 80 g of protein?
Only when mixed with milk. A full 6 scoop serve gives 62 g of protein mixed with water. The 80 g figure applies when you mix that serve with 500 mL of skim milk, which adds the extra protein and carbs. A full serve also gives 452 g of carbs and about 2160 kcal with water, so many people use the label's half serve option of 3 scoops instead and build up from there.
Is Nitro-Tech Ripped a fat burner?
No. It is a whey protein shake with 30 g of protein per scoop and a few extras, including 350 mg of L-carnitine and 200 mg of green coffee bean extract. No protein powder causes fat loss by itself. Your total energy intake and training decide the result. The label does not list a caffeine amount, so check it if you are sensitive to caffeine.
Is MuscleTech Creactor better than creatine monohydrate?
There is no good evidence that it is. Creactor uses creatine HCl and free-acid creatine in a small 2 g scoop. Most creatine research, including the studies behind the ISSN and AIS positions, uses creatine monohydrate at about 3 to 5 g a day. If you want the most studied option, choose a plain monohydrate. If you prefer a tiny scoop, Creactor is a convenient alternative.
