What is in Dymatize ISO100
Protein. The first ingredient is hydrolysed whey protein isolate, followed by whey protein isolate. Dymatize says 100% of the protein comes from whey protein isolate, filtered to remove excess lactose, carbs, fat and sugar, and describes ISO100 as fast absorbing.
The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) protein fact sheet explains the terms. Whey isolate is filtered to typically 90% protein by weight, with minimal carbohydrate and fat. Hydrolysate is broken down further into short peptides, often described as pre-digested, with claims of faster uptake. The AIS view is that the practical difference between forms of whey is minimal, with a 30 g serve of any form giving about 21 to 27 g of protein. So choose ISO100 for its taste, lean macros and mixability rather than expecting a big difference from the hydrolysed part.
Why protein powder makes sense. Isolated protein supplements sit in Group A of the AIS Sports Supplement Framework. The AIS lists sensible uses, including getting fast-digesting protein in straight after key workouts, adding protein to meals or snacks that are low in it, and as an easy option when appetite is poor or good food is hard to get.
Leucine and BCAAs. The AIS notes whey is high in branched-chain amino acids, including leucine, which it describes as the amino acid mainly responsible for switching on protein metabolism. Gourmet Chocolate lists 5.5 g of naturally occurring BCAAs per scoop, including 2,677 mg of leucine.
Everything else. Gourmet Chocolate is flavoured with cocoa and sweetened with sucralose and steviol glycosides (stevia), with small amounts of salt, soy lecithin and potassium chloride.
Who it suits
- People who want a lean shake: 25 g of protein with about 2 g of carbohydrate per scoop.
- Lifters and athletes who want protein quickly after training.
- Anyone whose breakfasts or snacks are low in protein.
- People who find whey concentrate heavier going. The AIS notes the small amount of lactose in concentrate may matter for people who are particularly lactose intolerant, although ISO100 is not labelled lactose free.
Who should check first
- Milk allergy: ISO100 is made from milk, so it is not suitable.
- Soy or peanut allergy: every flavour we checked contains soy, and Chocolate Peanut Butter also contains peanut.
- Lactose intolerance: Dymatize says it is filtered to remove excess lactose, but it is not labelled lactose free.
- Kidney disease or a prescribed protein limit: check with your doctor or dietitian first.
- Weight loss plans: the label says to use it as a food supplement only and not for weight reduction.
- Drug-tested athletes: Dymatize says ISO100 is banned substance tested. Sport Integrity Australia still advises checking for HASTA or Informed Sport batch testing in its app. See our guide to supplements for drug-tested athletes.
How to use Dymatize ISO100
Mix one scoop with water, milk or a milk alternative in a shaker or blender. Dymatize says it mixes easily in all three. The nutrition figures are for the powder alone, so milk adds protein, carbohydrate and energy.
The AIS suggests spreading protein across 3 to 5 eating occasions a day, at about 0.3 to 0.4 g per kg of body weight each time, which usually works out to 15 to 30 g. One scoop of ISO100 (25 g of protein) fits that range, so it works after training or as a snack. The AIS puts daily targets for athletes in heavy training at 1.2 to 1.6 g per kg of body weight and recommends food first. Work out your own number with our guide to how much protein you need per day.
How it compares
- Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey: 24 g of protein per serve, primarily from whey protein isolate, so it is a whey blend rather than isolate only.
- R1 Protein WPI by Rule 1: Rule 1 says 100% of the protein comes from whey isolate and hydrolysed whey isolate, the same protein types as ISO100, with 25 g of protein per serve. We also list R1 in a 10 lb bag.

Dymatize ISO100 review: our verdict
ISO100 is an easy recommendation for lifters who want a lean, fast-mixing isolate. Every flavour we checked lists 25 g of protein per scoop, Gourmet Chocolate has about 2 g of carbohydrate, and there are nine flavours to rotate. Dymatize also says it is banned substance tested, although tested athletes should still check batch certification themselves. The trade-off: the hydrolysed isolate is a big part of the marketing, yet the AIS says the practical difference between whey forms is minimal. Choose it for taste, lean macros and mixability rather than speed of absorption. If lean numbers matter less to you, a whey blend such as ON Gold Standard does the same core job.

The label says to use it as a food supplement only and not for weight reduction. It is low in carbohydrate and fat, so it can fit an eating plan, but weight change depends on your whole diet and activity.
