True Protein WPI 90: whey protein isolate
WPI 90 is True Protein's whey protein isolate. Isolate is filtered further than concentrate, so it is higher in protein and lower in fat, carbohydrate and lactose. The pack says it is low in lactose with no added sugar, and Rich Chocolate is sweetened with stevia. True Protein lists 0.3 to 0.4 g of lactose per serve, so it is low in lactose but not lactose free.

True Protein WPC 80: whey protein concentrate
WPC 80 is True Protein's whey protein concentrate. Concentrate keeps a little more of the milk's natural fat and carbohydrate, which True Protein says gives it a richer flavour, and it costs less per serve. The Natural flavour is just whey protein concentrate (98%) and sunflower lecithin, so it suits oats and smoothies as well as shakes. The pack lists no added sugar and a complete amino acid profile.

WPI or WPC: which True Protein should you buy?
- Choose True Protein WPI 90 if you want the most protein with the least fat and carbs, you are cutting, or regular whey makes you bloated.
- Choose True Protein WPC 80 if dairy sits fine with you and you want to spend less. At about $2.73 a serve, it is about 60 cents cheaper per shake than WPI 90.
- For building muscle, either works. The ISSN says the total protein you eat each day matters most, and suggests 1.4 to 2.0 g of protein per kg of body weight a day for most people who exercise. A shake simply helps you reach that number.
