The best way to shop a Boxing Day supplement sale is to compare cost per serve, or better still cost per 25 g of protein, and only stock up on what you will finish before the best-before date. A bigger tub of something you already use every day, such as whey protein or creatine, is usually where the real value is. We do not know yet what offers will run at Supps247 this Boxing Day. Any offers may vary by store and online, so check our website on the day. This guide shows how to judge value, which big tubs are good value at our current prices, and what is not worth bulk buying.

| MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000 12 lb | $159.95 | About 10 full serves (9,010 kJ or about 2,160 Cal, 62 g protein) | About $15.99 | Gainer, mostly carbs |
Cost per serve uses the serves listed on each label. Cost per 25 g of protein evens out different scoop sizes. Creatine and gainers are shown per serve only, because you buy them for different reasons.
How to judge a deal: cost per serve and per 25 g of protein
A big price cut on a small tub can still cost more per shake than a bigger tub at its normal price. Two quick sums sort it out:
- Cost per serve: divide the price by the number of serves on the nutrition panel.
- Cost per 25 g of protein: multiply the serves by the protein per serve, divide by 25, then divide the price by that number.
Why 25 g? The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) suggests about 20 to 40 g of good-quality protein per serve for most people who train, so 25 g is a fair stand-in for one shake. Our protein value guide uses 30 g instead. Any fixed amount works, as long as you use the same one for every tub.
Here is the size effect on one product. Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey costs $119.95 for the 2 lb tub (29 serves), or about $4.14 a serve. The 5 lb tub is $219.95 (74 serves), or about $2.97 a serve. A deal on the 2 lb tub has to be large before it beats the 5 lb tub per shake. Run the same sums on any offer you see on Boxing Day before you add it to your cart.
Good value big tubs at today's prices
Protein: 5 lb tubs and 2 kg bags
MuscleTech Nitro Tech 100% Whey Gold stands out on value. Each 33 g scoop gives 24 g of protein, and the 5 lb tub holds about 69 serves for $159.95. The 10 lb tub works out even lower per serve, but only one flavour (French Vanilla Creme) was in stock at the time of writing. The protein is mostly whey concentrate, so it suits you if dairy sits fine with you.
Next Generation Protein Delicious 2 kg is one of our best-selling proteins in the last six months. It gives 24 g of protein per 28 g serve and 71 serves a bag, and it is made in Australia, according to Next Generation.
Rule 1 R1 Whey Blend 5 lb and Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey 5 lb sit in the middle on price. Both give 24 g of protein a serve, and Gold Standard lists whey isolate as its main protein.
Rule 1 R1 Protein WPI 5 lb costs more per 25 g of protein, but it is the leanest option here: 25 g of protein, 3 g of carbohydrate, 0 g of sugars and 0.5 g of fat per 32 g scoop of Chocolate Fudge. Isolate is lower in lactose than concentrate, though not lactose free. It was our best-selling 5 lb tub in the last six months.
Creatine: 500 g to 1 kg
Creatine is easy to stock up on, because the dose never changes: the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) describes 3 to 5 g a day. Legit Creatine Monohydrate is our best-selling creatine, and the 1 kg bag gives 200 serves of 5 g for $79.95, about $0.40 a serve. That is more than six months at 5 g a day. The 500 g bag ($49.95) covers about three months. Our Legit vs ON Micronized vs Beast Labs creatine comparison goes further.
Mass gainers: 12 lb bags
Only buy a big gainer if you struggle to eat enough. CBUM Mass Gainer gives 1,070 Calories and 53 g of protein per full 4-scoop (275 g) serve, with 20 full serves a bag. It sits in our clearance range at the time of writing, so ask us about its best-before date before you buy. MuscleTech Mass Tech Extreme 2000 is a much bigger serve: 9,010 kJ (about 2,160 Calories) and 62 g of protein per 6-scoop serve mixed with water, so a 12 lb bag holds only about 10 full serves. Even half a serve is about 4,500 kJ. Our CBUM vs Serious Mass vs Mass Tech Extreme comparison goes into more detail.
What to check before you stock up
- The best-before date. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) explains that a best-before date is about quality, not safety, and food can lose some quality after it. Work out how long a tub will last you: about 70 serves is around 10 weeks at one shake a day, or 5 weeks at two. Then check that date on the listing or the tub. Clearance stock can carry a shorter date.
- The serves on the label. Serve sizes and serve counts can differ between flavours of the same product, so use the nutrition panel for the flavour you buy.
- The flavour. Only buy a big tub of a flavour you already know you like. If you are unsure, try a smaller tub first or ask about a free taste test at a store that offers them.
- Storage. Labels say to store tubs in a cool, dry place with the lid closed. In an Australian summer, that means not in a hot car or shed.
- Delivery time. Online orders usually arrive in 2 to 8 business days, and public holidays are not business days. Click and collect is an option at stores that offer it.
What not to stock up on
- Anything you have not tried. A tub you do not enjoy is not good value.
- Pre-workouts. Most people rotate flavours or formulas, and an opened tub can clump in humid weather. Buy one, maybe two.
- More than you can finish before the best-before date. Three tubs of protein at one shake a day is about seven months of shakes.
- Small tubs of daily staples. If you take something every day and like it, the bigger size is usually better value per serve.
- Bars and ready-to-drink shakes as your main protein. They are handy, but they usually cost more per gram of protein than powder.
Our pick: the best value tubs for Boxing Day
For most people who train, the smart Boxing Day buy is a big tub of a whey you already like plus a 1 kg bag of creatine. At today's prices, Nitro Tech 100% Whey Gold 5 lb and Protein Delicious 2 kg are the good-value wheys in this guide, R1 Protein WPI 5 lb is the pick if you want a leaner, lower-lactose shake, and Legit Creatine Monohydrate 1 kg covers more than six months at 5 g a day. Add a gainer only if your appetite is the problem.
On the day, check our specials page, browse the full range of whey protein powders, and run the cost per serve sums above on anything that catches your eye. For more options, see our best protein powder guide and best creatine guide.

FAQs
When is Boxing Day 2026?
Boxing Day falls on Saturday 26 December 2026. We do not know yet what offers will run at Supps247 on the day. Any offers may vary by store and online, so check our website and our specials page on the day, and compare cost per serve before you buy. The prices in this guide are our prices at the time of writing, not Boxing Day prices.
Is it worth buying a 5 lb tub of protein?
Usually, yes, if you have a shake most days and already like the flavour. A 5 lb tub nearly always costs less per serve than a 2 lb tub of the same product. At about 70 serves, it lasts around 10 weeks at one shake a day. If you are trying a new brand or flavour, start with a smaller tub, then move up once you know you like it.
Does protein powder go off?
Protein powder carries a best-before date. FSANZ explains that a best-before date is about quality rather than safety, so food may lose some quality after it. Store tubs in a cool, dry place with the lid closed, as the labels say, and plan to finish a tub before its date. If a powder smells wrong or has gone hard and lumpy from moisture, do not use it.
How much creatine should I buy at once?
The AIS describes a daily intake of 3 to 5 g of creatine monohydrate. At 5 g a day, a 500 g bag lasts about 100 days and a 1 kg bag about 200 days, so a 1 kg bag covers more than six months. Because the dose stays the same, creatine is one of the easier supplements to buy in a bigger size.
Should I compare cost per serve or cost per gram of protein?
For protein powder, compare cost per 25 g (or 30 g) of protein, because scoop sizes and protein per scoop differ between brands. For creatine, cost per 5 g serve is enough, since every serve is the same. For gainers, look at what a serve gives you in kilojoules and protein as well as the cost, because serve sizes vary a lot.
