Dr Berg's supplements are a US range developed by Dr Eric Berg, DC, a chiropractor known for his online videos on keto and intermittent fasting, and the two in stock that we cover here are Dr Berg's Nutritional Yeast tablets and Adrenal Stress Advanced Formula. Neither is essential, and both cost more per day than simpler single-ingredient options, so it is worth knowing exactly what is on each label before you buy. This guide breaks down the ingredients, what the research says, who should talk to a GP first, and the alternatives we stock in Australia.

Who is Dr Berg?
Dr Eric Berg is a US chiropractor (DC stands for Doctor of Chiropractic). His label says the products are developed and distributed by Dr Berg Nutritionals in Virginia, USA. They are made to US dietary supplement rules, so the labels show a "Supplement Facts" panel with US Daily Values rather than the Australian format.
Many people find the range after watching his videos. That is a fine starting point, but a supplement should earn its place on what is in the bottle and what the research shows, not on who made it. That is the lens we use below.
Dr Berg's Nutritional Yeast: what it is
Nutritional yeast is an inactive yeast that is naturally rich in B vitamins and is popular on plant-based diets. Dr Berg's version comes as chewable tablets. The label directions are to take 7 tablets a day, chewed or ground into a shake or food, and not to exceed that amount. The brand says it contains a naturally occurring B vitamin complex with added natural vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin) and no synthetic vitamins.
Things to know:
- Cost. At about $3.68 a day, it costs far more than nutritional yeast flakes from the supermarket or a standard B vitamin product.
- Vitamin B12 on plant-based diets. B12 is found mainly in animal foods, so vegans and some vegetarians may need a reliable source. Ask your GP whether a blood test makes sense, and see our vitamin B12 guide.
- Label caution. The label advises pregnant or breastfeeding women, under 18s and anyone with a medical condition to check with a doctor first.
Adrenal Stress Advanced Formula: what is in it
Each capsule contains 3 mg of manganese, 400 mcg of zinc and 30 mcg of copper, plus a 580 mg proprietary blend of L-theanine, L-tyrosine, ashwagandha root powder, desiccated adrenal substance from grass-fed cattle, nutritional yeast and licorice root. The directions are one capsule three times a day with meals, so a bottle of 90 lasts 30 days.
What the research says
- "Adrenal fatigue" is not a recognised medical condition. A 2016 systematic review of 58 studies concluded there is no evidence that adrenal fatigue exists. If you feel tired and stressed for weeks, see your GP, because there are many possible causes worth checking properly.
- Ashwagandha has the most research. A 2022 meta-analysis of 12 trials with 1,002 adults found ashwagandha extract lowered stress scores compared with a placebo, with the best results at 300 to 600 mg a day. The authors rated the certainty of the evidence as low.
- Doses are hidden. Because the herbs sit inside a 580 mg proprietary blend, you cannot tell how much ashwagandha, L-theanine or licorice is in each capsule, or whether it matches the amounts used in research.
- Glandular extracts are poorly studied. There is very little research on desiccated adrenal extracts in people.
- Manganese adds up. Three capsules give 9 mg of manganese a day, well above the adequate intake of 5 to 5.5 mg a day for adults, and the NHMRC notes that intakes beyond normal dietary levels could be a health risk. If you also take a multivitamin, check its label too.
Safety notes
- Licorice root. The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health notes that glycyrrhizin in licorice has been linked to serious effects in people with high blood pressure, heart or kidney conditions, and can interact with some medicines.
- Ashwagandha. The TGA has warned that ashwagandha products may be linked to liver injury in very rare cases. People with current or past liver problems should avoid them, and anyone who notices yellow skin or eyes, dark urine or unusual tiredness should stop and see a doctor.
Simpler alternatives we stock
If your main interest is the ashwagandha, a single-ingredient product shows the exact dose on the label. Beast Labs Ashwagandha 600 mg gives 600 mg of extract standardised to 5% withanolides in one capsule. Allmax Ashwagandha KSM-66 gives 600 mg of KSM-66 root extract per two-capsule serve for $59.95 a bottle of 30 serves. Both sit within the 300 to 600 mg a day range used in the research. The same TGA liver warning applies.
If you are after a simple evening supplement, many people choose magnesium glycinate. Beast Labs Magnesium Bi-Glycinate lists 150 mg of elemental magnesium per capsule with no other ingredients. Read more in our magnesium guide.
Who should talk to a GP first
Check with your GP or pharmacist before taking Dr Berg's supplements, or any ashwagandha product, if you:
- have high blood pressure, or a heart, kidney or liver condition
- have a thyroid condition or any hormone-related condition
- take regular medicines, especially for blood pressure, mood or sleep
- are pregnant, breastfeeding or under 18
Our verdict
Dr Berg's supplements are not bad products, but they are not the best value for most people. Nutritional Yeast is easy to take but expensive for what it does. Adrenal Stress Advanced Formula hides its herb doses inside a blend and is marketed for adrenal support, while "adrenal fatigue" is not a recognised medical diagnosis.
If you want what these products are aiming for, we would start with a clearly dosed, single-ingredient option such as Beast Labs Ashwagandha 600 mg after checking with your GP, and look after the basics of sleep, food and training first.

FAQs
Are Dr Berg's supplements available in Australia?
Yes. Supps247 stocks Dr Berg's Nutritional Yeast and Adrenal Stress Advanced Formula online, with Australia-wide delivery, free shipping on orders of $99.99 or more and Afterpay at checkout. Stock varies by store, so check online or use click and collect at a store that offers it. The products are made for the US market and carry US-style labels.
Is adrenal fatigue real?
Not as a medical diagnosis. A 2016 systematic review of 58 studies found no evidence that adrenal fatigue is an actual medical condition. Feeling tired, stressed or run down is real, though, and it has many possible causes, from poor sleep to low iron or thyroid problems. If it lasts more than a few weeks, see your GP rather than relying on supplements.
Is Dr Berg's Adrenal Stress Advanced Formula safe?
It contains licorice root, ashwagandha and a bovine adrenal extract, so it is not right for everyone. Licorice can be a problem for people with high blood pressure, heart or kidney conditions, and the TGA warns of very rare liver injury with ashwagandha. Check with your GP first if you have a medical condition, take regular medicines, are pregnant or are under 18.
What does nutritional yeast do?
Nutritional yeast is an inactive yeast that is naturally rich in B vitamins and adds a savoury, cheese-like flavour to food. Dr Berg's version is a chewable tablet with added natural vitamin B12, taken as 7 tablets a day. It is mainly a convenient way to add B vitamins, not a must-have supplement, and supermarket flakes are a cheaper option for cooking.
What is a good alternative to Dr Berg's adrenal formula?
If ashwagandha is what you are after, a single-ingredient product shows the exact dose. Beast Labs Ashwagandha 600 mg gives 600 mg of extract in one capsule, within the 300 to 600 mg a day range used in research. Talk to your GP first if you have liver problems or take regular medicines.
