What is in EPO Pump
AfterDark describes EPO as a nitric oxide enhancing formula, and the main ingredient is L-citrulline at 6,000 mg per scoop. A 2019 systematic review and meta-analysis by Trexler and colleagues in Sports Medicine pooled 12 studies and found a small benefit of citrulline over placebo for high-intensity strength and power, with an effect size of 0.20. The included studies used at least 3 g, taken at least 30 minutes before exercise. The authors called the effect small, but said it may matter where results are decided by small margins.
The 3,000 mg of glycogen polymers is a small amount of carbohydrate from dextrose and D-ribose. Arginine, grape seed extract, cinnamon extract and pink Himalayan rock salt are also listed.
AfterDark's US label groups L-tyrosine, choline and huperzine A as a nootropic (focus) complex. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) has reviewed tyrosine and its agreed classification is Group C, meaning the evidence does not support a benefit for athletes.
The 300 mg of creatine HCl is far below the 3 to 5 g a day of creatine monohydrate that the AIS creatine fact sheet describes for keeping muscle creatine topped up, and the AIS says there is no scientific reason to choose a form other than monohydrate. If creatine is a goal, take it separately: see how to take creatine.
One note on labels: AfterDark's US website shows a different EPO formula, with a 17.5 g scoop, 21 servings and citrulline malate. This guide uses the Australian label panel, so always read the panel on your own tub.
Who it suits
- People who train in the evening and want to avoid caffeine close to bedtime.
- Caffeine-sensitive lifters, or anyone taking a break from stimulants.
- People who dislike the tingle that beta-alanine can cause.
- Lifters who want a pump product alongside their usual pre-workout. The Australian label says it can be stacked with AfterDark's Inhuman.
Who should check first
- Pregnant or nursing: the label says do not use.
- Medical conditions or medication: the label says to consult a doctor before use.
- Under 18: the label says keep out of reach of children. Talk to a doctor before any pre-workout.
- Allergies: made on equipment that processes milk, egg, soybean, fin fish and wheat.
- Stacking with caffeine: if you pair it with a stimulant pre-workout, count every source of caffeine (see below).
- Drug-tested athletes: Sport Integrity Australia says no supplement can fully guarantee a negative test. Check the batch in the Sport Integrity app and read our guide for drug-tested athletes.
How to use EPO Pump
The Australian label says to take 1 scoop in 360 mL of water before training, and not to exceed one scoop in 24 hours. AfterDark's US site suggests 8 to 10 oz (about 240 to 300 mL) of water, 20 to 30 minutes before the gym, so follow the directions on your tub.
Timing tip: the citrulline studies pooled in the Trexler review gave it at least 30 minutes before exercise, so having EPO around 30 minutes before you start fits that research.
EPO has no caffeine listed, but if you stack it with a stimulant pre-workout, count that product's caffeine plus your coffee and energy drinks. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) advises healthy adults over 18 to have no more than 400 mg of caffeine a day from all sources and no more than 200 mg in a single serving, and no more than 200 mg a day if pregnant or breastfeeding. Start with half a serve of any new stimulant product. Read pre-workout caffeine and Australian rules.
How it compares
- EVP 3D Stim-Free by Evogen: also caffeine free, but Evogen lists arginine nitrate (NO3-T) and beta-alanine, which it notes may cause tingling. EPO lists neither.
- EVP AQ by Evogen: a liquid glycerol pump product with a 2 tablespoon serve, which Evogen says is made without stimulants. Glycerol is in AIS Group A for helping the body retain fluid.

FAQs
Does EPO Pump contain caffeine?
No caffeine is listed on the Australian label, and AfterDark calls EPO a stimulant-free formula. That makes it an option for late sessions or for people avoiding caffeine.
Will EPO Pump make my skin tingle?
The Australian label lists no beta-alanine, the ingredient commonly behind that tingle. Everyone responds differently, so start with the label serve and see how you feel.
How much citrulline is in one scoop of EPO Pump?
Each heaped 16 g scoop has 6,000 mg (6 g) of L-citrulline plus 750 mg of arginine. That is above the 3 g minimum used in the studies pooled by Trexler and colleagues.
Can I take EPO Pump with a stimulant pre-workout?
The Australian label says it can be stacked with AfterDark's Inhuman. If you stack it with any stimulant product, keep your total caffeine within FSANZ advice of 400 mg a day and 200 mg in a single serving.
How many serves are in a tub of EPO Pump?
The label lists approx. 20 serves of one heaped 16 g scoop, and the tub is 320 g net. Do not take more than one scoop in 24 hours.
Label details checked against the Australian AfterDark label panel and the official AfterDark product page on 19 October 2026. Formulas can change, so always read the label on the product you buy and follow the directions.
