What is in Legit Xtreme
Caffeine (about 487.5 mg). The AIS caffeine fact sheet says small doses of about 2 to 3 mg per kg of body weight (around 200 mg) improve performance, and that the benefit plateaus at about 3 mg per kg. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) advises healthy adults to have no more than 400 mg of caffeine a day from all sources, and no more than 200 mg in a single serving. One full scoop of Xtreme is above both figures on its own. Legit's description says "over 500mg of total caffeine", while the panel adds up to 487.5 mg. Either way, it is a lot.
Beta-alanine (4.2 g). The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) position stand on beta-alanine says 4 to 6 g a day for at least 2 to 4 weeks raises muscle carnosine levels, with the clearest benefits in hard efforts lasting 1 to 4 minutes. The only reported side effect is tingling (paraesthesia), which the ISSN says can be reduced by splitting the dose into smaller amounts of about 1.6 g. With 4.2 g in one scoop, expect some tingling.
L-citrulline malate (9 g). Citrulline is included for blood flow and "pump". A 2021 meta-analysis by Vårvik and colleagues in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism found that 6 to 8 g of citrulline malate taken 40 to 60 minutes before strength training gave a small increase in repetitions to failure. Xtreme's 9 g is above the doses in that analysis.
Focus and mood ingredients. L-tyrosine, agmatine sulfate, alpha GPC, L-theanine, kanna extract and English walnut extract are there because Legit says they support focus, motivation and mood. Treat those as brand claims. For context, the AIS places tyrosine in Group C, where the evidence does not support a benefit for athletes.
Himalayan pink salt (300 mg) rounds out the formula, which Legit says supports hydration and electrolyte balance.
Who it suits
- Experienced pre-workout users who already know they handle high caffeine doses well.
- Healthy adults who can keep the rest of the day's caffeine low, with no coffee or energy drinks on top.
- People who train in the morning or middle of the day, well away from bedtime.
- People who are happy to start at half a scoop, as Legit's own directions recommend.
Who should check first
- Beginners and caffeine-sensitive people: choose a lower-caffeine or stimulant-free pre-workout instead.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding: FSANZ advises no more than 200 mg of caffeine a day from all sources, and a full scoop is more than double that. Do not use it. If you are trying to conceive, talk to your doctor first.
- Under 18: FSANZ advises children and teenagers to have no more than 3 mg of caffeine per kg of body weight in a single serving, which is 180 mg for a 60 kg teenager. A scoop of Xtreme is well over that, so it is not suitable.
- Heart, blood pressure, anxiety or sleep problems, or any medication: talk to your doctor first. The AIS lists increased heart rate and anxiety among caffeine's side effects.
- Tree nut allergy: the formula lists English walnut extract, so check the allergen statement on the tub.
- Drug-tested athletes: check Sport Integrity Australia guidance and search the certifier databases yourself before use. Read our guide to supplements for drug-tested athletes.
How to use Legit Xtreme
Legit's directions:
- Mix 1 scoop with 300 to 400 ml of cold water and drink it 20 to 30 minutes before training.
- Because of the high stimulant content, begin with half a scoop to assess your tolerance.
- Do not take more than 1 scoop in a 24-hour period.
Half a scoop works out to about 244 mg of caffeine, which is still above the 200 mg single-serving figure FSANZ uses, so keep the rest of your day's caffeine as low as possible. The AIS notes caffeine has a half-life of about 5 hours and can affect sleep even at low intakes, so avoid it later in the day. Our guide to pre-workout caffeine and Australian rules shows how to add up your daily total.
How it compares
- Legit Edge Pre-Workout: same brand, much less caffeine. One 8 g scoop lists 162.5 mg of caffeine anhydrous plus 50 mg of di-caffeine malate, and you can take one or two scoops, so it is easier to scale up slowly.
- EVP 3D Stim-Free Pre-Workout by Evogen: Evogen describes it as a caffeine-free formula, so it suits evening training or anyone avoiding stimulants.

FAQs
How much caffeine is in Legit Xtreme Pre-Workout?
About 487.5 mg per scoop: 450 mg of caffeine anhydrous plus 37.5 mg from 50 mg of di-caffeine malate. That one scoop is more than the FSANZ guide of 400 mg a day for healthy adults, so start with half a scoop and skip other caffeine that day.
Is Legit Xtreme good for beginners?
No. It is built for experienced users with a high caffeine tolerance. Beginners are better off starting with a lower-caffeine option, such as Legit Edge at one scoop, or a stimulant-free pre-workout.
Why does Legit Xtreme make my skin tingle?
That is the beta-alanine. The ISSN position stand says tingling (paraesthesia) is the only reported side effect, and that smaller split doses of about 1.6 g reduce it. Each scoop of Xtreme has 4.2 g, so expect it.
When should I take Legit Xtreme?
Drink it 20 to 30 minutes before training, as the label says. The AIS puts caffeine's half-life at about 5 hours, so avoid taking it in the afternoon or evening if you want to sleep well.
Can I take Legit Xtreme with coffee?
It is not a good idea. A full scoop already goes past the FSANZ guide of 400 mg of caffeine a day from all sources, so any coffee, tea or energy drink pushes an already high total even higher.
Label details checked against the official Legit Supplements product page on 19 October 2026. Formulas can change, so always read the label on the product you buy and follow the directions.
