What is in Chaotic Rage
Caffeine. Chaotic Rage gets its caffeine from caffeine anhydrous plus 50 mg of Infinergy (di-caffeine malate), which the label says yields 37.5 mg of caffeine. We found two versions of the supplement facts panel for this 25-serve tub, and they list different amounts of caffeine anhydrous and theobromine, so read the panel on the tub you buy. Both versions add up to more than 200 mg of caffeine per scoop.
That matters because Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) advises adults to have no more than 200 mg of caffeine in a single serving and no more than 400 mg a day from all sources. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) says caffeine's performance benefit seems to plateau at around 3 mg per kg of body weight, or about 200 mg.
Synephrine. Each scoop lists 30 mg of synephrine, a stimulant found in bitter orange. The AIS puts bitter orange and synephrine in Group D, which means not to be used by athletes, and notes synephrine is on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Monitoring List. The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) says serious events, including abnormal heart rhythms, heart attacks and strokes, have been reported in people taking bitter orange products. Most were multi-ingredient products, so it is unclear whether bitter orange caused them, and the evidence on heart rate and blood pressure is inconclusive.
Beta-alanine. At 3,500 mg per scoop, expect the tingle. The AIS says single doses of regular beta-alanine above 800 to 1,600 mg can cause a tingling feeling on the skin that can last up to an hour. It also says the benefit comes from daily use over at least 4 weeks, with no evidence that a single pre-workout dose helps performance.
Citrulline malate. Each scoop has 6,000 mg of citrulline malate (2:1). A 2019 meta-analysis by Trexler and colleagues in Sports Medicine found citrulline gave a small benefit for high-intensity strength and power, while the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) says the research does not provide strong support for it.
Other ingredients. The panel also lists 400 mg of L-tyrosine, 200 mg of choline bitartrate, AstraGin and B vitamins. The AIS places tyrosine in Group C, where the evidence either does not support a benefit for athletes or is too limited to judge.
Who it suits
- Experienced pre-workout users who already know how they handle more than 200 mg of caffeine at once.
- Healthy adults who train in the morning or early afternoon.
- People who do not compete in drug-tested sport.
Who should check first
- Beginners and caffeine-sensitive people: start with a lower caffeine or stim-free pre-workout instead.
- Under 18: not suitable. FSANZ advises under 18s to have no more than 3 mg of caffeine per kg of body weight in a single serving.
- Pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive: avoid it. FSANZ advises no more than 200 mg of caffeine a day from all sources during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and one scoop is over that on its own.
- Heart conditions, high blood pressure, anxiety or medication: talk to your doctor first. NCCIH advises speaking with a health care provider before using bitter orange if you take any medicine.
- Drug-tested athletes: synephrine is in AIS Group D, so we would not recommend it. See our guide to supplements for drug-tested athletes.
- Allergies: we could not confirm the allergen statement against an official brand source, so read the tub.
How to use Chaotic Rage
We could not confirm the full directions against an official Mad House Innovations source, so follow the directions printed on your tub, including any maximum daily amount. The serve on the label is one scoop, so never take more than that.
Our advice:
- Start with half a scoop, on a day with no other caffeine, and see how you feel.
- Do not combine it with coffee, energy drinks, fat burners or another pre-workout.
- Take it well before bed. The AIS notes caffeine has a half-life of about 5 hours and can affect sleep even at low intakes.
Before you start, read pre-workout caffeine: how much is safe under Australian rules.
How it compares
- Fresh Pre-Workout: can be taken at one scoop, which works out to about 180 mg of caffeine on its label, and it lists no synephrine.
- EVP 3D Stim-Free Pre-Workout: Evogen describes it as caffeine-free, for evening sessions or caffeine-sensitive lifters.
- Legit Edge Pre-Workout: directions of 1 to 2 scoops, with Legit describing low-stim and high-stim serving options.

FAQs
How much caffeine is in Chaotic Rage?
More than 200 mg per scoop on both label versions we found. The caffeine comes from caffeine anhydrous plus 50 mg of di-caffeine malate (37.5 mg of caffeine), and the caffeine anhydrous amount differs between versions, so check your tub. FSANZ advises adults to keep to 200 mg or less in a single serving.
Is Chaotic Rage good for beginners?
No. It combines high caffeine with synephrine, so it is aimed at experienced users. If you are new to pre-workouts, start with a lower caffeine or stim-free product, and if you try Chaotic Rage later, begin with half a scoop.
Can drug-tested athletes use Chaotic Rage?
We would not recommend it. It lists synephrine, which the AIS places in Group D, meaning not to be used by athletes.
Why does Chaotic Rage make me tingle?
That is the beta-alanine. Each scoop has 3,500 mg, and the AIS says single doses above 800 to 1,600 mg can cause a tingling feeling on the skin that can last up to an hour.
When should I take Chaotic Rage?
Follow the timing on your tub and keep it well away from bedtime, as caffeine has a half-life of about 5 hours.
