    What is in Everyday Health

Primabolics groups the formula into five parts. Here is each one in plain terms, with what independent Australian and US health sources say.

Greens blend (2.5 g). Organic wheat grass, barley grass, spirulina and chlorella. That is a small amount of dried greens. Eat for Health recommends 5 serves of vegetables and legumes a day for women aged 19 to 50 and 6 serves for men of the same age, so treat a greens powder as an extra, not a swap for vegetables. Primabolics' own label says the product is not a sole source of nutrition.

Mushrooms and herbs. Reishi mushroom (1,000 mg), shiitake mushroom (250 mg), Panax ginseng (175 mg), Gentiana lutea (200 mg) and shilajit (50 mg). We list these as ingredients only and make no health claims about them. Healthdirect notes that supplements can have side effects or interact with other medicines.

Gut and probiotic blend. Fermented L-glutamine (1,000 mg) and LactoSpore, a branded Bacillus coagulans strain, at 5 billion CFU. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) places probiotics in Group B, its category for supplements with emerging or mixed scientific support, and describes them as live microbial supplements that may have beneficial effects on intestinal microbial balance.

NAC and enzymes. N-acetyl cysteine (NAC, 600 mg), which the AIS also lists in Group B and describes as an amino acid and antioxidant, plus bromelain (250 mg), ginger (125 mg) and papain (2.5 mg).

Vitamins and minerals. Vitamin C (80 mg), thiamin (40 mg), niacin (40 mg), riboflavin (20 mg), pantothenic acid (10 mg), pyridoxine HCl (5 mg), methylcobalamin (10 mcg), biotin (10 mg), vitamin D (2,000 IU), magnesium bisglycinate (300 mg), manganese (20 mg), zinc citrate (12 mg), iodine (75 mcg) and selenium (52 mcg). The AIS lists multivitamins in Group B too. Two amounts are worth knowing about:

    • Vitamin D: 2,000 IU is 50 mcg. The Australian upper level of intake for adults is 80 mcg a day, so add up any other vitamin D you take.
    • Biotin: 10 mg is 10,000 mcg, far more than the 30 mcg a day the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) recommends for adults. The ODS notes that biotin above recommended amounts may cause false results in some lab tests, including some hormone tests such as thyroid tests.

    Who it suits

    • Adults who want greens, a probiotic and a vitamin and mineral blend in one flavoured drink.
    • People who find a drink easier than swallowing several capsules.
    • Anyone who wants to try it in a 25 serve tub before moving up to 40 serves.
    • People building a simple daily routine. Browse our greens supplements and vitamins to compare formats.

    Who should check first

    • Children under 15, pregnancy or breastfeeding: the label says it is not suitable.
    • Taking medication or managing a medical condition: healthdirect says supplements can interact with other medicines, making them dangerous or less effective. Show the label to your doctor or pharmacist before you start.
    • Booked in for blood tests: tell your doctor you take a product with high-dose biotin.
    • Already taking a multivitamin or vitamin D: check your totals. Healthdirect notes that higher amounts are not necessarily better and can sometimes cause harm.
    • Allergies: the Primabolics product page does not list allergens, so read the panel on the flavour you buy.
    • Drug-tested athletes: Sport Integrity Australia says no supplement can fully guarantee you will not test positive. Check its guidance and the HASTA and Informed Sport databases yourself.

    How to use Everyday Health

Primabolics' directions are to mix 1 scoop with 250 to 350 mL of cold water. The brand also asks you to follow the directions on the final approved product label, so check your tub for how often to take it, and do not go over the stated serve.

Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and keep it out of reach of children.

Because it already contains vitamins and minerals, look at it as part of your total supplement intake rather than an add-on to everything else you take.

    How it compares

    • Ghost Greens: a greens and reds powder that adds inulin, a prebiotic fibre, and its label states vegan friendly.
    • Animal Pak: a multivitamin in individually portioned daily packs of tablets and capsules, rather than a powder you mix.
    • Beast Labs D3 + K2: a single vitamin D3 and K2 product. If you take it with Everyday Health you are doubling up on vitamin D, so check the combined total with your doctor or pharmacist.
