    What is in OxyShred

Caffeine (150 mg). Caffeine is the main active you will notice. The AIS caffeine fact sheet lists about 60 mg of caffeine in a 250 ml cup of instant coffee, so one scoop is roughly two and a half cups. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) advises healthy adults to have no more than 400 mg of caffeine a day from all sources and no more than 200 mg in a single serving, so one scoop sits inside the single-serving figure. Two scoops a day, as EHP Labs suggests, is 300 mg before any coffee or tea.

The "shredding" ingredients. EHP Labs says OxyShred is formulated to promote fat loss, using ingredients such as acetyl L-carnitine, green coffee bean extract, CLA, Garcinia cambogia and bitter orange. That is the brand's claim. The US National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements (NIH ODS) is more cautious: its consumer fact sheet says there is little scientific evidence that weight-loss supplements work. It says caffeine might help you lose a little weight, green coffee bean extract and carnitine might help you lose a small amount, CLA a very small amount, Garcinia cambogia has little to no effect, and the effects of raspberry ketone are unknown. It also notes bitter orange contains synephrine, a stimulant, and might not be safe.

Focus ingredients. EHP Labs includes L-tyrosine and taurine for mood and focus. For context, the AIS places tyrosine in Group C, where the evidence does not support a benefit for athletes.

    Vitamins. Each serve also lists about 173 mg of vitamin C and six B vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12.

The honest summary: OxyShred is a flavoured way to have a measured dose of caffeine. Body weight changes depend mostly on your overall diet, training and lifestyle. Our fat burner tips explain how to set realistic expectations.

    Who it suits

    • Healthy adults who want a flavoured caffeinated drink in the morning or before training.
    • People who prefer a moderate 150 mg caffeine dose to a high-stimulant pre-workout.
    • People who avoid animal ingredients and are comfortable that it is not certified vegan.

    Who should check first

    • Pregnant or breastfeeding: FSANZ advises no more than 200 mg of caffeine a day from all sources, and the label says OxyShred is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women.
    • Under 18: the label says it is not recommended for children. FSANZ advises under 18s to have no more than 3 mg of caffeine per kg of body weight in a single serving.
    • Heart conditions: EHP Labs notes that people with pre-existing heart conditions might have adverse reactions to ingredients such as caffeine and should get medical advice first.
    • Medication or medical conditions: talk to your doctor or pharmacist first, as OxyShred has several botanical extracts, including bitter orange.
    • Caffeine sensitivity or poor sleep: the AIS notes caffeine can affect sleep even at low intakes.
    • Milk allergy: EHP Labs makes its products in a facility that also processes whey protein.
    • Drug-tested athletes: check Sport Integrity Australia guidance and the certifier databases yourself. See our guide to supplements for drug-tested athletes.

    How to use OxyShred

    EHP Labs' directions:

    • For best results, take it twice a day.
    • Mix 1 scoop with about 295 ml (10 oz) of chilled water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.
    • On training days, have it about 15 minutes before exercise.
    • Avoid eating or having a protein shake for 20 minutes afterwards.

If you are new to it, start with half a scoop (about 75 mg of caffeine) to see how you feel. Count coffee, tea, energy drinks and pre-workouts in your daily total, and avoid late-afternoon doses, since the AIS puts caffeine's half-life at about 5 hours. EHP Labs also recommends a one-week break after each tub, especially if you have used it for about four weeks straight. Our guide to pre-workout caffeine and Australian rules shows how to add it all up.

Can I take two scoops of OxyShred a day?

EHP Labs suggests two scoops a day, which is 300 mg of caffeine. FSANZ advises healthy adults to stay under 400 mg a day from all sources, so keep other caffeine low on those days.

    Should I cycle off OxyShred?

EHP Labs says your body may adapt to caffeine over time and recommends a one-week break after each tub, especially after about four weeks of steady use.

    Can I use OxyShred as a pre-workout?

Yes, EHP Labs says it can be used as a pre-workout. Have it about 15 minutes before training and count its 150 mg of caffeine towards your daily total.
