What is in Asli Ayurveda Shilajit

The jar contains one thing: shilajit resin. Asli Ayurveda says it is 100% natural shilajit sourced from the Himalayas at about 18,000 feet above sea level, and the label describes it as carefully purified and filtered resin, made the Ayurvedic way.

What shilajit is. A 2011 review in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology describes shilajit as a multi-component, naturally occurring mineral substance used in Ayurveda and Siddha, the traditional medicine systems of India. It comes from mountainous regions and has a long history of traditional use. For more background, read our article what is shilajit.

Fulvic acid and minerals. A 2014 review in Phytotherapy Research names fulvic acid and compounds called dibenzo-alpha-pyrones as key constituents of shilajit. Asli Ayurveda states its resin contains 75% or more fulvic acid and more than 80 trace minerals, including potassium, calcium, iron and silica. These are brand figures. The lab certificate that comes with each purchase is the best place to check them.

What the research says. The evidence is still thin. The 2014 review notes relatively few well-controlled human studies have been done, and the 2011 review concluded that the bioactivity of shilajit lacks substantial evidence and needs more research. Supps247 makes no health claims for this product.

Why testing matters. A 2024 review in Biological Trace Element Research found shilajit can contain heavy metals, including lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury. Most reported levels sat below WHO and FDA limits, but some studies found higher amounts, and the authors warn against taking shilajit without knowing its metal levels. The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) also notes that some Ayurvedic preparations may contain lead, mercury or arsenic in amounts that can be toxic. That is why a purified product with a lab certificate matters.

    Who it suits

    • Healthy adults who want to try a traditional Ayurvedic resin.
    • People who prefer a single-ingredient resin over gummies or capsules with added herbs.
    • Anyone happy to measure a small amount and dissolve it in a warm drink each day.

    Who should check first

    • Pregnant or breastfeeding: NCCIH advises talking to your health care provider first, as some Ayurvedic products may contain things that could be harmful.
    • Medical conditions or medication: speak to your GP or pharmacist before use, and tell all your health providers about any traditional products you take.
    • Under 18: Supps247 lists this product for healthy adults only. Keep it out of reach of children.
    • Concerned about heavy metals: ask for the lab certificate and check the results for lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium.
    • Drug-tested athletes: Asli Ayurveda does not appear on the HASTA certified list. See the FAQ below and our guide to supplements for drug-tested athletes.

How to use Asli Ayurveda Shilajit

    Asli Ayurveda's directions are simple:

    • Use the spoon supplied to measure a pea-sized amount, about 200 to 250 mg.
    • Stir it into about 100 mL of warm water or milk until it dissolves.
    • Take it once a day on an empty stomach.

The brand suggests using it consistently for three months. At its suggested amount, the 20 g jar lasts roughly 80 to 100 days. Do not take more than the brand suggests, and keep the lid sealed between uses.

    How it compares

    • Pure Himalayan Shilajit Gummies Gold: chewable gummies, 2 per serve with 30 serves in a 60-gummy jar. They combine shilajit extract with ashwagandha and other herbs, so choose the resin if you want shilajit on its own.
    • Primabolics Everyday Health: a daily greens drink that includes 50 mg of shilajit per scoop alongside greens, mushrooms, vitamins and minerals. It is a broad daily formula rather than a shilajit product.

    FAQs

How much Asli Ayurveda shilajit should I take?

Asli Ayurveda recommends a pea-sized amount, about 200 to 250 mg, measured with the spoon in the box. Dissolve it in about 100 mL of warm water or milk and take it once a day on an empty stomach. Do not take more than this.

How long does a 20 g jar of shilajit last?

At 200 to 250 mg a day, a 20 g jar gives roughly 80 to 100 doses, or close to three months of daily use. That lines up with the brand's suggestion to use it consistently for three months.

Is Asli Ayurveda shilajit lab tested?

Asli Ayurveda states its shilajit is lab tested for purity and potency, that each purchase comes with a lab-tested certificate, and that it is GMP certified. If the certificate is not in your box, ask for it before you start.

What is fulvic acid in shilajit?

Fulvic acid is one of the main compounds identified in shilajit, according to a 2014 review in Phytotherapy Research. Asli Ayurveda states its resin contains 75% or more fulvic acid. That is a brand figure, so check the lab certificate for the tested amount.

    Is shilajit safe to take?

Research on shilajit in people is limited, and a 2024 review warns that shilajit can contain heavy metals. Choose a purified, lab-tested product, stick to the suggested amount and talk to your GP first if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, take medication or have a medical condition.

    Can drug-tested athletes take shilajit?

Asli Ayurveda is not on the HASTA certified product list, and we could not find a batch-tested certification for this product. Sport Integrity Australia advises athletes to choose independently batch-tested products and to use the Sport Integrity App supplement checker before taking any supplement.
