R1 Clean Gainer is a moderate-calorie gainer: 560 Calories, 30 g of protein and 99 g of carbohydrate per 149 g serve. That is about half the size of a typical mass gainer serve, which makes it easier to drink and easier to fit around meals. It uses a wider mix of carbohydrate and fat sources than most gainers, although maltodextrin is still the main carb. It suits lean people who want steady weight gain without a 1,000-Calorie shake.
What is in R1 Clean Gainer?
| Per 149 g serve (Chocolate Fudge) | Amount |
|---|---|
| Energy | 560 Calories (about 2,340 kJ) |
| Protein | 30 g |
| Carbohydrate | 99 g |
| Fat | 5 g |
| Naturally occurring EAAs | Over 14 g |
- Protein: whey concentrate, whey isolate, milk protein isolate and micellar casein, a mix of fast and slower-digesting proteins.
- Carbs: a blend led by maltodextrin, with organic quinoa, organic rice bran and oat fibre.
- Fats: MCT, flaxseed, avocado and sunflower oil powders.
Is it really "clean"?
"Clean" is a marketing word with no legal definition. What R1 Clean Gainer does well is moderate serve size, a varied ingredient list and a sensible protein-to-calorie ratio. But maltodextrin is still the first carbohydrate, as in most gainers. If you want a gainer that is mainly whole-food carbs, you could blend a protein powder with oats and banana instead.
