Ingredients
Unflavoured: L-arginine HCl.
Allergens: produced in a facility that also handles milk, soy, egg, peanut, tree nut, fish, crustacean and shellfish products.
How to use
Mix one rounded teaspoon (5 g) into water, juice or your preferred drink, one to three times daily. On training days, take it about 30 minutes before training. On non-training days, take it on waking and/or before sleep.
Good to know
- Avoid if you have genito-urinary problems or cold sores, unless prescribed by a doctor.
- Do not use if you have asthma, have had a heart attack, or have established coronary artery disease.
- A US National Institutes of Health review notes arginine intakes up to about 9 g a day appear to be tolerated, and larger doses can cause diarrhoea and nausea. Three scoops provide 15 g of L-arginine HCl, so start with one (NIH).
- Athletes who are drug tested should choose batch-tested products (for example HASTA or Informed Sport certified) and check with their sport before use.
FAQs
How many serves are in the tub?
The 400 g tub holds 80 scoops of 5 g. At one scoop a day that is 80 days. At the label maximum of three scoops a day it lasts about 26 days.
Does it have a flavour?
No, it is unflavoured. The label suggests mixing it with water, juice or a protein shake. Older Allmax directions also offer a taste tip: add lemon juice and a non-sugar sweetener to the water before stirring in the scoop.
What does the evidence say about arginine?
A US National Institutes of Health review says arginine has little scientific support for improving performance or recovery. It notes intakes up to about 9 g a day appear to be tolerated, with diarrhoea and nausea more likely at larger doses.
Who should not use it?
The label says to avoid it if you have genito-urinary problems or cold sores unless a doctor has prescribed it, and not to use it if you have asthma, have had a heart attack or have established coronary artery disease. Check with your doctor if you take any medication.
